Since the development of nylon guitar strings by Albert Augustine Ltd., the three treble strings are a single nylon filament, while the three bass strings are made of a core of fine nylon threadlike filaments wound with silver-plated bronze or copper wire.
Lighter gauge strings......are generally easier to play and allow easier bending of notes. However, they can break more easily, produce less volume and are prone to fret buzzing.
Heavier gauge strings.....are harder to play and require more finger pressure to fret and bend notes. They produce more volume and sustain.
